American stuntman, pilot and skydiver Trevor Daniel Jacob, age 29, is set to plead guilty to charges arising from intentionally crashing his plane to boost his YouTube popularity, according to a statement from the US Department of Justice. This orchestrated aerial spectacle took place on November 2021, when Jacob launched from Lompoc City Airport in US, knowing fully well that he was planning to crash his plane in the name of creating sensational video content.

Jacob, a licensed pilot, took off that day under the pretense of flying solo to Mammoth Lakes in the Sierra Nevada mountains. However, he had a far more dramatic and dangerous plan in mind. He had mounted several video cameras within and outside the plane, strapping himself with a parachute and a selfie stick-mounted camera. The plan? To film himself parachuting to safety while his plane hurtled downwards, providing a spectacular footage that he hoped would rake in millions of views.

About 35 minutes into the flight, as he was flying over the Los Padres National Forest near Santa Maria, Jacob put his plan into action.
